Retreats and Workshops

WORKSHOPS & CRAFT DAYS
 
These workshops will provide a wide choice of different styles of creativity for your enjoyment and learning experience.  The workshops take place either in the home studio of Majestic Merino or in the local community hall, depending on the facilities required for each class. Accommodation is available nearby at the Nornalup Riverside Chalets or Riverside Retreat or other alternatives to suit the size of the group participating. Morning tea is provided, all other meals are self cater. The Nornabar is open for lunch most days; and dinner (weekends only). 
 
The following courses will be on offer by appointment for individuals or small groups. Dates by mutual agreement. 
  • Embroidery on Felt - a one workshop covering the basics of creating a needlefelted picture to then embellish with embroidery. Use one of the designs in the kit, or create your own from your own photograph.  $100 + kit. - Optional 1/2 day workshop - $50 per half day session.
  •  
  • Embroidery Basics with Gail Guthrielearn all the basic surface stitches to create that masterpiece or embroider that quilt, be it crazy patchwork, Candlewicking or embroidered panels. For those undertaking the Introduction to Embroidery (Foundations One) Embroiderers’ Guild Course, this satisfies the stitches required for your stitch sampler—a great ready reference for the future. $50 per session. 3 Sessions are required to do the full set of listed stitches in the 3 groups of Straight Stitches, Looped Stitches and Knots. Canvas work stitches can also be covered. A final session will cover fabrics, and finishing techniques. 
  • Day classes available or choose a weekend by mutual agreement.

  • Needlepoint Embroidery - canvas work embroidery commonly used in tapestries, plus a multitude of other stiches to make your own designs including Florantine & Bargello. 
  •  
  • Advanced Embroidery - Advanced techniques including Surface and 3D,  Blackwork,  Landscape Embroidery, Stumpwork
  •  
  • Knitting- learn how to do the 4 basic techniques and how to adapt any pattern to the yarn & size you wish. 
  •  
  • Teddy Bear Making - cut out and sew a small fur bear. 
  •  
  • Doll Making - from your choice of pattern, cut out, construct and sew a doll and clothes. 
  •  
  • Dressmaking - cut & sew basic trousers, skirt or shirt
  •  
  • Patchworking - basic techniques
  •  
  • Felting - wet and dry felting techniques
  •  
  • Parchment Craft - basic techniques to get you started with working designs on parchment for cards and pictures. 
  • Have a craft you would like to learn but can't find a class, contact us and we will try to supply one. 
Minimum numbers will apply for workshop that require an external teacher.
